Trip into the forbidden

Sitting in my car I watch as he walks into the thick forest, snow downing on him. Dread and fear creep into me as the fact that I have to follow him in there becomes reality. I knew the risks when I signed up to become a private crime investigator, navigating the dark and twisted lives of some of the most wanted criminals in this world. Snapping out of my thoughts I realize it's time for me to follow him in. I know nothing of the way he looks, talks, moves, only that he’s known as the man with no face wanted for the murders of countless individuals.

I slowly get out of my car being careful not to make the slightest of noise. The cold hits my chest and fog comes out of my mouth as I breathe. I begin tracing the steps in the snow. The farther I move into the forest the thicker the trees become, the less visible the steps become and the quieter my surroundings become. I walk on being careful of anything that might give me away. You could hear a paperclip fall in this forest right now but instead right at that moment I hear a branch crack, right behind me. I freeze where I am and slowly turn around. Standing in front of me is the man I’m supposed to be following. ‘Ahh, how the roles have reversed, I’m the one following you now.’ He says as he moves towards me. The closer he moves the farther I step back, fear vibrates through me. I have the impulsive thought of making a break for it when something hard jabs into my back. Without even looking I recognise what it is, a gun. The barrel of a gun pressing into my back. My breath freezes along with the rest of my body and I stand still, not daring to move back further.

‘I take it Mr. Hannigan sent you.’ He says. His face was right in front of mine. Moonlight from above shines right on us and I stare at him, in shock. A jagged scar runs down one half of his face; eyebrow to jaw. He looks scarred from every angle and his face is without color. ‘I asked a question.’ He says in a harsh tone. ‘I don’t know who that is, I’m a private investigator. People tell me to find someone and I do, in this case I got an email from an anonymous user with some background information about whoever you are.’ I say as I shudder. ‘I’m going to have to see that email and you’re coming with us.’ He says as he walks off. Whoever was pinning that gun barrel into my back ties my hands together behind me and we walk off. I would scream but we’re in the middle of nowhere, no one lived here because of how sketchy it always looked. Trying to escape would probably just get me a knock in the head.  No one knew where I was or who I was with, well even I didn’t know that part to be honest. I’m shoved into a car and the engine roars on right before a black sack is shoved over my head and something hits me in the head. Putting me into a daze before I fall over, unconscious.
