My 2022 reads
Hello everyone! We’re back at it again this year. At the end of 2021 I wrote. two blogposts. One blogpost talked about my 2021 reads and the second talked about all the books I wanted to read in 2022. I listed around 20 books that I wanted to read however I didn’t read all of those titles and read a few which weren’t a part of the list at that point.
Now that all of that’s out of the way, lets’ get into it!
The Song of Achilles
The Song of Achilles was the first ‘Romance historical fiction’ book I ever read. Personally I’ve always been a huge fan of greek mythology and read myths and about the greek gods all the time.
The book follows the lives of Achilles and Patroclus as they grow and lead their lives together. The story is set during the Greek Heroic age and is sure to make you ride a rollercoaster of emotions
The Lost Pearl
The Lost pearl is a book different from any I’ve ever read before. Ever since I read ‘Other words for home’ by Jasmine Warga in ‘21, I wanted to read similar books which showcased the many trials people around us face and help you to expand your emotional knowledge about your surroundings.
The story follows a young girl named Sana Shah through her life as she struggles with the pain of witnessing her fathers murder. As you read the book you’re taken across the globe as Sanas’ life leads her to California and she realises the value of all the wisdom her father passed onto her during their time together.
We were liars
We were liars is the first book that I ever read which focused so deeply on psychological horror/thriller. The writing style was unlike any I’ve read before. Reading about the Sinclair family and all of which lay behind the curtains of this family was true fun. I remember reading it in one sitting primarily because of how short and seat gripping it was.
Family of Liars
Part 2 of ‘We were liars,’ family of liars follows the story of Caroline Sinclair. Back at the family’s private island Caroline deals with a lot, as her dead sister Rosemary’s ghost comes to visit her and she gets addicted to drugs which helped her recover from her jaw surgery. As the summer passes Caroline is surrounded by secrets and betrayal. In order to survive this summer she must turn into a real Sinclair and be able to lie and pretend at any give time.
(I don’t know if this counts since I started it Dec 28 & finished it Jan 4)
The Spy
I remember randomly picking up ‘The Spy’ from my sisters bookshelf at night. I had just finished a book and was inching to read another and so just picked it up. I read it one sitting. The spy is the story of a dutch dancer known as Mata Hari. It documents her journey of being a spy from the German side for WW1 as well as her conviction.
Matched
I’d been waiting to read the Matched series for around 2 years. I got around to it in the summer and began the first book. Going into the book I didn’t set any bar for expectations, wanting to review the book in the end without any prior expectations. Personally I didn’t enjoy the book. In my opinion the dystopian world which had been created was great however the plot wasn’t as major or captivating as it could have been. There were so many details and smaller plots which had just been repeated over and over, taking away from the genuine interest in the book.
Six of Crows
So I got into the entire Grishaverse in 2021 with the Shadow and Bone trilogy. I personally didn’t enjoy the trilogy that much, however this was not the case for the Six of Crows duology. I absolutely adored it. The story follows Kaz Brekker and his group (Inej, Jasper, Wylan, Nina & Matthias) while they attempt to pull off a dangerous heist.
I have yet to read the second book (crooked kingdom) since I wanted to sit down with peace and quiet and read it without any distractions so I could get the best of it. So no spoilers please :).
Five Feet Apart
I originally bought this book in 2021 and read the first half of it but fell out of it. At the beginning of this year I decided to pick it up again and start it over. Personally I didn’t enjoy the book as much as the movie. This could be since I watched the movie prior and knew the entire storyline. The story follows Stella, a young girl who’s been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis as she works to make it work with someone she has met.
The Inheritance Games
To all my YA mystery lovers out there, you have got to read this book. The story follows Avery Grambs. A young girl who’s planning a future for herself in high school when her life is completely turned around. Tobias Hawthorne, one of the richest men of America leaves Avery pretty much his entire fortune. The key point to keep in mind is that Avery has no idea who this man is and why he did this.
However in order to gain access to this inheritance she must move into the Hawthorne house and live with the family. She must be able to work with the family and overcome all the challenges and trials in her way.
The Hawthorne Legacy
Part 2 of ‘The inheritance games’ trilogy, The Hawthorne legacy explores the deeper connections Avery holds with this family given all we discovered in the first book. We also see Grayson and Jameson each looking for ways to pull Avery their way and meet new people who want nothing more than for Avery to be gone.
As you can all probably tell this was not the best year for reading considering I read 10 books when my goal was to read 20. Hoping the coming year is different and we can read more and maybe even surpass our goal!
