Doomed
The clock rang 5 in the afternoon, office chairs scraped by the floor. Workers bid their goodbyes and left to return to their awaiting families at home. I packed my stuff in my bag, grabbed my coffee and went on my way. The sun set, the sky was pink, the park buzzed with chatter and the barks of dogs. Cafes were packed with people grabbing a bite or getting some work done. I entered the cafe. “Hey Melissa, a chicken wrap to go please” I said at the counter. I waited at the till, grabbed my sandwich and made my way to my house, ready to unwind from a long tiring day.
Throwing my keys on the mantelpiece, I slumped down on the sofa and turned the tv on.
Havoc, everywhere I see there is havoc. Children crying, parents running frantically trying to get to their family members. I move through the thick crowd, when a big blow of wind throws me back. I reach out to the first thing I see, a fire hydrant but it shoots out of the ground up into the sky. As I look up to see where it went I’m met with a majestic yet scary sight. What looked like a dome made of a white clear substance was forming overhead. With every breath I drew the dome grew larger and larger until it touched the shore of the lake on the right side. I make for the left side of the shore. Everywhere I see things are getting sucked into the dome. An agonizing scream rings in my ears and I turn around to see the body of a child hovering in thin air and everything seems to slow down for a few seconds. I know I shouldn’t stop but I can’t help it, it’s as if my feet are being pulled down by some invisible force. His body falls down with a loud thump and a woman runs towards him, wailing at his side. I turn with great force and run away from the scene. Suddenly a throbbing ring starts in my ears, I cover my ears with my hands and collapse on the ground screaming. I open my eyes for a split second and see a red streak heading straight towards me.
I wake up with a jolt sitting up right. Pressing my hands to my eyes, breathing shaky breaths and rubbing the sweat from my forehead. I dozed off.
Something outside the window blurs by causing me to look over; outside my house is the same dome as in my dream and suddenly the same red streak only 10 times faster heads straight my way….
