The Death Wolf

it was a dark cool night. Mel and Chris were walking deeper and deeper into the forest. There were magical creatures living here. Those who had never been heard of. Mel was scared to the bone, her teeth chattered in the cold, scared that something was going to leap at her from the trees, she inched away from the trees. “For god’s sake Mel stop being such a scary cat.”exclaimed Chris. “I’m being sensible Chris, we don’t know about the many dangers lurking around these corners, I’m going back home!” Screamed Mel. “Fine!” Replied Chris and they both stalked away in different directions.

Some time passed by. Mel was walking back home but they had come really deep into the office and she was tired from the walk already. She sat down on a large rock placed next to a tree. The air was so cold it felt as if it was all freezing up her chest. She pulled up her scarf to her mouth and began rubbing her hands together. She snuggled into the area between the rock and tree, providing herself with some warmth and comfort. A few passed by and Mel tried to get back up but she was too comfortable and felt safer in this gap hidden by the tree than she would walking alone.

What would Chris be doing now? How much deeper into the forest must he have gone? These questions popped up in her brain every few minutes. Finally Mel got up and walked back home. As she was walking she heard a distinct noise, ignoring it she walked on but fastened her pace in case it was some animal. After a few minutes she heard the same noise again but it was louder and was filled with pleas. “Help, somebody help!” Immediately Mel recognised the voice, it was Chris. She ran back into the forest. Everything around her was dark and she could barely see, her only source of light was the moon, until it wasn’t. Further in the forest a few steps away from where she was standing, Mel saw a glowing green substance. Slowly she inched towards it. When Mel was just one step away she made out the figure on the forest floor. It was Chris’s body lying there, there was what looked like a bite on the side of his leg but instead of blood and flesh there was the green substance oozing out of the wound. Suddenly she felt something grab her hand and looked up to see Chris’s hand holding hers. “Mel, you-you need to leave, there is some sort of a creature roaming around here, leave now...I’m sorry Mel....” saying this Chris’s voice trailed off, his head hit the ground and his fingers slipped away from Mel’s hand. “NO,NO!” Screamed Mel “You’ll be fine Chris I just need to take you back home and treat your wound.” Saying this Mel grabbed his legs making sure to lift them high so the wound wouldn’t brush against the forest ground anymore and dragged Chris around. About five steps away now from where she had found Chris Mel felt as if there was something looking at her from the bushes to her right. She assured herself that there was nothing there and looked over at the bushes. She saw what Chris had been talking about, the creature. Two green glowing eyes were shining bright from within the bushes. “No Mel, you’re just imagining things, come on” She rubbed her eyes and looked back at the bush. Suddenly something leaped out of the bushes and lunged at her. It bite her in the leg just like Chris, the creature lifted its head and Mel saw its face. Black fur, glowing green eyes, its mouth red with blood. A death wolf. They were supposed to be a myth. The wolf went back into the bushes. Mel looked over at Chris, grabbed his hand and said “I’m sorry.” Her head dropped down and she was dead.
